I've seen a few feather paintings around, but I didn't even think of anything like this. You did a great job with this little portrait, and I love the ... I don't know bird anatomy. The hemp work you seem to have done on the, uh. Stem? You know what I mean. xD Very cool.
This is EXTRAORDINARY. Besides the fact that you can paint on a feather so intricately, is the fact that it's a real barn owl feather ! Incredible, the amount of detail you put in it . . . man. Jealous out to infinity.
Actually it's illegal to have ANY migratory bird feather. This includes everything from a blue jay to an owl. It's a $10,000 fine and around 10 years in prison if you're caught with them/selling them. Silly laws, but they do exist in the USA. Keep this feather to yourself, and don't make more to sell!
hehe you kind of have to paint lightly along the barbs so that they stay together... once you have simple coats down... then when the paint dries on that section, it gets firm enough for you to go over the details... it's actually alot easier than I thought ^^
